This is an introduction for using HTML to author your own web page. HTML stands for HyperText Markup Language. This is the computer language that is used to make World Wide Web pages on the Internet.
After you read and do some of the drills in this introduction you will be able to author a simple WWW document or page. You will learn how to add text to your page, format it using header, horizontal rule, paragraph and line break tags and to change the style.
HTML can be written using a word processing program such as simpletext. You can run simpletext in the background while you read this and switch between the two applications when doing the drills.
The other application you will need is a WWW browser such as Netscape, MacWeb or AOL's browser. You need this to view the page that you make as it would be seen on the WWW. For your simpletext or other word processing documents to be viewed by your browser they must be saved as HTML documents. To do this is simple. When you save the document, you will be prompted to name it. Give the document the desired name and without adding any spaces type .html after the name. Now your browser will recognize the document as an HTML document.
This introduction will not help you with loading your completed page onto the WWW. You will need to contact your Internet provider to be able to do this.
